Woofer frame cracked from being screwed down too tight?
There is a pair of ferrite 604 on ebay. One of them has a big chunk of the frame missing. Seller claims it was not dropped, but was screwed down too tight. Have you guys seen this happen before?

I had a pair of 16? 421 frames that were tweaked (bent in two places). I figured that would happen before the frame would actually crack.
Seems like there were defects in that 604 frame. The other one of the pair has what looks like some small cracks also.

Looks like they are junk to me. That second speaker has major cracks, I would want either of them. He should just list them as "parts speakers" and start the bidding at a buck.

Exactly. The price he has them at is high even for a working pair.
How did they get so F’d up I wonder?

Poor quality from Altec at the time, weaker frame.
Probably in a cabinet that was dropped, or roaded a lot.
